Si divitae et invidia nos ab amore et honore usque prohibent, divitesne vere sumus?
If wealth and envy continuously restrain us from love and honor, are we truly rich?
Good question. When I focus on what I don't have it really can become depressing. So I am trying to not be envious (I don't have a problem with wealth) and to remember the love in my life and the things I am thankful for.
Firstly, God. Without God I wouldn't have any of the other things in my life that I love. I also wouldn't know who I am and where I am heading.
God gives us beautiful days occasionally to lift our spirits. Last night there was an amazing sunset. I pulled out my cell phone to take a picture and I was not the only one who did and a man who was walking out of work at the same time I was turned to me and said, "Isn't that amazing?" So these pictures are really laughable compared to the real thing, but it might give you an idea of what I'm talking about.
Next, Family. Especially my nephew and my nieces. They are truly the brightest spots in my life. Last Sunday Avery and I made little pilgrim boats out of walnuts, twigs, leaves, and a little play-dough. We had so much fun and Avery loved playing with them afterward. Genna has figured out how to make calls from her mom's cell phone and she has called me several times saying brightly, "Hi Ha-wee!" One time she told me about the birthday party she wants to have, including balloons, face painting, and fireworks. Good Luck Bec! Baby Kate hasn't called recently, but I'm sure she still cares. :) Also the rest of my family is amazing. My mom has supported me in everything I do and is always there when I am upset (which has actually been a lot recently. Must have something to do with number 5 in this list and with my lack of a problem with wealth). My dad is always willing to help me. No matter what my problem is, no questions asked. Ryan understands my competitive nature and my love of Dr. Stephens. Stacy is always good for a girl chat and a rousing game of nertz. Rebecca is my best friend and confidant. Reid is great at making me feel loved and cared for. Chad is great for any kind of discussion, although I never really win against this intellectual mastermind. Also Chad always watches The Santa Clause with me every Thanksgiving. Jordan is my favorite quote person. He can quote any Office or Avatar episode and any great movie we both love and he makes me laugh so hard.
Third, Friends. Even though I don't see my friends that much, I still feel their love and when I do see them we always have a great time. I recently took a trip up to Rexburg and I had a blast! I was able to hang out with four of my five roommates from my first apartment. Sometimes memory lane is really fun. Also, I have been having a lot of fun with my current roommates. Actually we are planning to be in our ward talent show together in December. Good times.
Fourth, Work. Many people are out of jobs and I feel so blessed to have such a great job. My bosses love me and are so flexible with my schedule and always make me feel valued. In January I will have worked there for a whole year (that's longer than I have worked anywhere else) and the time has gone by so quickly because I have loved it! This is a picture I took of my work building on a beautiful summer day.Fifth, School. Ahh . . . school. So difficult and so rewarding. Learning is amazing right? I am glad that I have found something I really enjoy and am excited about. I feel like I want to take all the classes offered that are related to my career path. I figure if you feel that way it's a pretty good sign, right? I am also so glad I have been able to go to three different schools that have been able to give me great experiences. For the record, UVU still wins as far as schools go, but BYU is starting to grow on me.
