A wise, wonderful, woman!

Last Thursday night, Julie B. Beck, the Relief Society General President, came to our stake Enrichment Meeting. It was mostly a question and answer session and even though I did not ask any questions I definitely received some answers. Here are some of my favorite things she said:

Our stake Relief Society president thanked Sister Beck for sacrificing her personal time to be there with us. She replied, "I'm not sacrificing my personal time, because I don't have any!" We all laughed.

Q: How can we find joy in the journey?
A: ". . . Know where you are headed. Who wants to have "the dream" life? Who wants to have "the dream" marriage? Well, some of you will have it, some of you will not. This life isn't "The Dream" it's the experience. It prepares us for the dream."
"Crisis + Time = Humor"

Q: Everything the gospel is about is under attack. How, as women, can we help and strengthen those around us?
A: "Intentional parenting. . . can't be casual about protecting our families. The "swing shift" is the most important for mothers. [At that time] People are tired, hungry, distressed. We can nurture at that time." She also talked about teaching things on purpose and having a specific plan.

At the end of all the questions she said she had one more important thing to share specifically for the young, single, adult, women.
"When the Savior restored the gospel he said that the gospel has to be preached to everyone and everyone has to go to the temples and be families.
Who is going to do that? Not the young mothers. She [the young mother] is preparing her own children to make covenants. Is it the older women? They help in the temples.
Young people have to do this work! Share the gospel, go to the temple, do family history. While you are waiting for marriage don't just 'hum hum'."

The whole night was really enjoyable and uplifting. It is so fun to get together as women and really feel that connection that we share.

Thanks for sharing, Holly! I remember some similar feelings when the previous RS president came to the UVSC Institute building to speak. I think you are amazing. Can't wait to see you!!!!!!!
